Research group GMGEC

Group Director : Aurelien Ribes

ssistant manaer : Sophie Pelletier and Roland Seferian

Group organisation :

The Large-Scale Meteorology and Climate Group (GMGEC, Toulouse) focuses on the study and analysis of climate and climate change, modelling of the climate system and its various components (atmosphere, ocean, surface, biosphere, etc.) on a global or regional scale, understanding climate variability and long-term forecasting (e.g., seasonal forecasting). These activities involve participation in various model intercomparison exercises such as CMIP or CORDEX and their analysis, conducting impact studies and attribution studies of climate change already observed, and certain extreme events. The group also studies atmospheric composition and develops operational forecasting chains for this atmospheric composition on a scale of a few days, in order to predict dust episodes, pollutant dispersion, or air quality on global and regional scales.

Main activities :

  • Climate variability and climate change
  • Climate forecasting: from seasonal to decadal
  • Surface oceanography and ocean-atmosphere coupling
  • Atmospheric composition and air quality
  • Modelling, understanding and forecasting regional climates
